This report refers to the SEN provision at Chapel Street Infants and Nursery School for the academic year 2021-2022. 

Provision 

Chapel Street Infants and Nursery School is a mainstream Infant school. 

We cater for pupils age 2-7.

Referrals made in the academic year 2021-2022 

  • 2 successful EHC plan applications 
  • 2 new EHC Plans applied for 
  • 1 EHC Plan referral made by Health Visitor for future pupil 
  • 7 Early Help referrals made by school  
  • 5 Development referrals made (including speech, occupational therapy, audiology and  community paediatrician) 
  • 1 CAMHS referral made  
  • The SENCO/Head has conducted meetings with the parents of 25 individual children plus  family support meetings for 10 individual children. This may have been a one-off meeting or  a regular meeting, such as for Early Help (every 6 weeks). Some parents have been seen  more frequently than this. 

Success in 2021-2022 

  • SEN Governor continues in a supportive role 
  • The SENCO attended the New2SENCO course with Inclusive Learning North, FIGS meeting  with SENCOs from schools in the Furness area and the Termly SEND Inclusion Forums with  Inclusive Learning North 
  • The SENCO successfully applied for 2 new EHC Plans.  
  • Strong links continue with local Health visitors, working collaboratively to support our  younger children 
  • Use of CPOMS in school – all information is in one place and can be accessed easily by staff Peer review of SEND provision with SENCOs from 2 local schools, Newbarns and Dane Ghyll Orcina funding has supported SEN staffing this year 

Challenges 

  • Time constraints – lots of meetings no time to work with children, how can this be  addressed? 
  • Funding – We are still expected to fund first £6000 of EHC plan funding, funding for Ed Psych  involvement for this year was used by the 2 EHC plan referrals made last academic year. SENCO resigned position mid-year. Headteacher acted as SENCO for remainder of the year 

Results 

0% of SEND children gained GLD at the end of Reception 

0% of SEND children gained expected in Reading, Writing and Maths at the end of Key Stage one EHCPs 22-23 

2 EHCPs in Reception. One for 27 hours and one for 22.5 hours

  • New Head to take on SENCO role, 0.3 
  • Continue to review provision with other local schools

  • Continue to submit Early Help Assessments where appropriate 
  • Continue to submit Development Referrals where appropriate 
  • Liaise with all appropriate professionals 
  • Streamline Pupil Plan paperwork 
  • Provide staff training on Quality First Teaching and provide a school policy for Quality First Teaching in the classroom 
  • Develop identification of SEN within school, creating concern forms, flow charts and help  guides for staff
